Falls are the most common accidents and can cause serious injury at any time of life, although the risk increases with age.
Falls are a major cause of hospital admissions for older people and they often result in a protracted and painful recovery. Regular physical activity helps us maintain strength and flexibility so that we can carry on doing the things we enjoy and remain independent; There are simple ways to improve our fitness levels, which are not too strenuous.
Poor eyesight and hearing, poorly fitting shoes or slippers can also play a part in increasing the risk of falls.
The Falls Prevention worker is able to give talk and presentations to local community groups and organisations on ways to avoid having trips and falls around the home and how to stay fit and healthy.
