IDAS is the largest specialist charity in Yorkshire supporting anyone subjected to or affected by domestic abuse or sexual violence.
What we do:
Our services include refuge accommodation, community based support, peer mentoring, group work and access to a free, confidential out of hours’ helpline.
Our teams of accredited specialist workers (IDVA’s and ISVAs) support people through the criminal justice system in addition to providing emotional support and safety planning advice.
The Volunteer role can include:
• Emotional support for survivors of domestic abuse
• Client evaluations to ensure the client voice is at the heart of our services.
• Delivering security items to vulnerable clients or court support
• Attending criminal or civil court with a client
• Attending solicitors' appointments
• Orientation support for new residents in refuge or dispersed accommodation
• Admin roles, such as uploading referrals for the hub
• Refuge practical support
• Children’s refuge worker support roles
• Group facilitation support
• Peer support initiatives.
You will need to be flexible, friendly and approachable with good listening and verbal communication skills. Volunteers need to have respect for the diversity of all people, including commitment to the IDAS ethos and values. You will need to be reliable, trustworthy and prepared to adhere to the confidentiality policy. A non-judgemental, impartial and confidential approach is essential. Full training and shadowing will be provided. The volunteers will be working closely with the Volunteer Organiser and practitioners to achieve any agreed goals.
Basic IT and Organisational skills are essential.
An understanding of Domestic and Sexual Violence are desirable.
Police vetting is essential, and is initiated after successfully completing our Core training.
