SCAD is a charity which was registered in the International Year of the Disabled - 1981 - meaning that 2021 is our 40th anniversary. We were formed to provide accessible and affordable transport for those who struggle to access other public or private forms of transport. In 2021 we are moving to become a wider community transport operator, offering demand responsive transport to anyone who needs it because of health difficulties or their location.
We provide a demand responsive, door to door transport service. Journeys must be pre booked, and registration is required, but paid membership of SCAD is no longer required for individual journeys. This transport has operated and continues to operate throughout 2020 and 2021. Charges for journeys are available on our website, or can be quoted directly. All our minibuses have lifts and can carry passengers who are unable to transfer from their wheelchair.
There is also a full list of around 80 day trips each year for people who choose to be members of SCAD, to a range of places such as the Lakes, Morecambe, York, stately homes, flower shows and museums, shopping centres, garden centres and our incredibly successful 'Pub Friday' lunchtime trips. As soon as Government advice permits, these trips will be up and running again.
SCAD in Skipton offers a manual wheelchair hire service. Prices start at £5 per day and longer hires are also available.
