On Thursday 5th May elections will take place to elect 90 new councillors who will represent 89 new divisions. These councillors will serve for five years.
For the first year they will represent the county council for its final year. They will then serve the new single council for its first four years.
These councillors will make decisions on what public services will look like in the future and matters like council tax rates.
The new council will be in place for 1st April 2023. Until then, services will continue to be provided by the existing eight councils and you should carry on contacting your local council as normal.
After 1st April 2023 all of the existing councils will cease to exist, and they will be replaced by a new North Yorkshire Council.
All eight councils are working together to make sure that the services you value like waste collection and recycling, highways and planning continue as usual when North Yorkshire Council comes into being on 1st April 2023.
